This course on language and gender aims to start with a general and basic introduction of what the concept of gender means in general and how it must be separated from the concept of biological sex. Through that it will become apparent, that gender is a social construct and phenomenon and must therefore be granted representation by society. Moreover, the unit wants to shed light on how speech of men and women differs and how that can and must be connected to their corresponding roles and stances, mediated by society. For this the students are asked to collect natural speech data and conduct their own, brief language anaylsis. The last part of the unit wants to bring all this into the context of the classroom. The class shall discuss critically how gender impacts the classroom setting and collectively think of ways how the space can become a more equal space that caters for everyone
